Internet Desk: If reports are to be believed, India’s legendary opening batsman Virender Sehwag has been asked to apply for post of India coach to challenge the present coach Anil Kumble for the post, as his term as India coach ends after the Champions Trophy on June 18.

A few days back the BCCI, sent an invitation by asking the former cricketers to apply for the post of India coach.  By doing that, the board made it clear that Kumble won’t get an automatic renewal for his post. But they gave him a direct entry into the interview where he have to prove his point that, why he must get an extension as coach.

In an interview with Indian Express, a top BCCI official said that they had asked Sehwag to apply for the post during the IPL season 10.

“We have contacted Sehwag during the IPL and asked him to consider applying for the job of India coach. But he won’t be the only one applying because we expect other former players to also throw their hats in the ring,” a top BCCI official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

The official also added that the next Indian coach will do his job till the 2019 World Cup and therefore it is necessary that they choose the right person for this tough job.

“The board wants to go through the process of selection of coach again. Also, the next contract is likely to run until the 2019 World Cup, so even the length of the contract has to be taken into consideration before appointing the coach. We don’t want a scenario where the players and the coach are not on the same page,” said the BCCI official.

The final date of sending the application for the post of Head Coach is May 31. After that the high-profile cricket committee consisting of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman will look after the applications and will choose the next India coach.
