December 22 : Sania Mirza rang a ring around her opponents as she partnered Martina Hingis to not only win a record 9 titles, but also rose to the apex of the world doubles rankings. And she continues to shatter the record books even in the off season; such was her domination in the recently-concluded season.
The 29-year-old’s official Facebook page completed 10 million likes, and the Indian trailblazer couldn’t resist herself from expressing gratitude towards the fans. “I love you all to the moon and back,” she wrote a caption along with a loving emoticon and a portrait of hers.
Interestingly, only Maria Sharapova (15 million) has more fan-following on Facebook than Mirza, who leads the likes of Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Petra Kvitova, Victoria Azarenka, Eugenie Bouchard, and Simona Halep.
Mirza has also been making waves on Twitter. At 3.27 million followers there, she has beaten Sharapova’s 1.92 million. Only Serena Williams (6.01 million) has more followers than all of her fellow female tennis stars.
