Xtra Time Web Desk: The inclusion of Team India star batter Shubman Gill for the marquee clash against Pakistan in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 game in Ahmedabad on Saturday raised quite a few eyebrows. The Indian team management though was quietly confident about his recovery. Captain Rohit Sharma did indicate in his pre-match conference that Shubman was ’99 percent’ fit to play after having tested positive for dengue. In fact, the 24-year-old was 100 percent fit a day before the Pakistan game. There were indications that he was recovering well after he batted for an hour on Thursday under the sun. Gill was in his element during the practice session before matchday.

It is now being revealed that his treatment at the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai went well under the supervision of Dr Sivarama Kannan. It was Dr Kannan’s treatment Gill could make a speedy recovery and return to the field. He received a nutritious diet, particularly papaya for energy conservation and strength. He was constantly given timely injections and IV fluids so that the drop in platelets was increased. Shubman was admitted to the hospital on a precautionary measure on the day India played Australia in the first game of ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. His platelets were dropping considerably. Once his platelet count went up and surpassed 100,000, Gill was discharged from the hospital the next day.

On Wednesday morning his platelets count was increasing constantly. So it was decided to allow him to travel to Ahmedabad the same night.

Gill was on the field against Pakistan for 42.5 overs and looked in no discomfort. He came out to open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma.
