Internet Desk: A brilliant ton from star left hand batsman Sudip Chatterjee helped Bengal to post a big total as they started their Trophy campaign against Services in Palam today.

Manoj Tiwary & Co. scored 341 for the loss of three wickets at the end of Day 1. Earlier Services won the toss and chose to field first.

Both the openers from Bengal Avishek Raman and Abhimanyu Easwaran gave a brilliant to their side. Raman got out on 40. Another opener Easwaran scored 65 before his fall of wicket. Sudip next formed a successful partnership with skipper Manoj Tiwary (69) as Bengal took tea at a commanding 198 for two.

“It was a good day. It panned out the way we wanted it to. But the job is half done. Our plan is to bat once and hence we need to put up a score of 500 plus. We have two set batsmen who need to do well tomorrow,” Manoj told to CAB.

“I was playing well and hence getting out was a huge disappointment. Now the aim is to bowl the opposition out twice. We have the bowling attack to do it. But the batters need to do their job first and get the runs on the board,” he said while talking about his form.

There is nothing called a perfect start but this was definitely a good one for Bengal. At the stumps were batsmen Sudip Chatterjee 114* (182) and Wriddhiman Saha 32 (49) at the end of the day.

“I am very happy with the score we have today. Everyone got runs. It always feels good to begin the season with a century. I just hope I can continue to contribute. But now as a team our first target will be to put up a big score,” Sudip told CAB.

“The wicket was low and slow and hence not so easy to score. But with patience we can make the difference,” he added.
