XtraTime Web Desk: Reigning champions Liverpool kick-started their title defence in style as they edged out Leeds United in a seven goal thriller on the opening day of the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday. A late Mohamed Salah penalty – to seal his hat-trick saw the hosts return with full points. Van Dijk scored the other goal for Liverpool.
It was a disappointing night for Marcelo Bielsa’s team as his boys put up an inspirational fight on their return to Premier League. Goals from J Harrison (12’) P Bamford (30’) and M Klich (66’) saw them draw level thrice in the match but failed to snatch a point from the reigning champions.
In another Premier League clash Arsenal thrashed newly promoted Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage. Alexandre Lacazette (8’) Gabriel Magalhaes (49’) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (57’) were on target for the Gunners.
