Premier League: Chelsea kick-start the season with a convincing 3-1 win over Brighton

XtraTime Web Desk: Chelsea made a perfect start to their Premier League campaign as they defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 at the Amex stadium on Monday. Jorginho (23’), Reece James (56’), Kurt Zouma (66’) were on target for the Blues while Leandro Trossard (54’) reduced the margin for Brighton.

The big spending West London club made quite a few marquee signings this season with the German pair Timo Werner and Kai Havertz making their debuts. Werner, in particular, was lively on his first appearance for Chelsea as he won a penalty in the 21st minute as Mat Ryan tripped him inside the box. Jorginho made no mistake from the spot kick to give Chelsea the lead in the 23rd minute.

Brighton draw level when Leandro Trossard (54) fired home, with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s ability to deal with long-range strikes once again called into question.

Chelsea restored back their lead less than two minutes later when Reece James (56) drilled home his first Premier League goal in stunning fashion. Kurt Zouma too entered his name on the score sheet with his shot getting deflected off the toe of Adam Webster to go inside the goal.
