Premier League: Champions Liverpool shocked 1-2 by Arsenal, suffer third defeat of the season

XtraTime Web Desk: Premier League champions Liverpool suffered their third defeat of the season as they were forced to bite the dust against Arsenal, losing 1-2 at the Emirates stadium on Wednesday night. The loss dented Jurgen Klopp’s ambition to break Manchester City’s record 100 point haul in the Premier League. The club from Anfield is now on 93 points with just two rounds to go.

Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead in the 20th minute but rare defensive errors from Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker errors gifted Arsenal the opportunity to turn the results in their favour. Alisson Lacazette (32’) and Reiss Nelson (44’) scored for the Gunners.

Despite a commanding second-half performance, Liverpool were unable to prevent a third defeat of the season as Arsenal climbed to ninth after their first victory over Jurgen Klopp’s side in five years.
In another Premier League clash Manchester City registered a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at Etihad stadium. David Silva (6’) and Gabriel Jesus (39’) were on the score sheet for City while D Brooks reduced the margin in the dying minutes of the match. The win took City to 75 points from 36 matches.
