Internet Desk: Jordan Henderson scored with a spectacular long-range effort to help Liverpool win 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Friday night. This was Chelsea’s first defeat in this season under new manager Antonio Conte.
Henderson’s 25-yard shot came after Dejan Lovren’s opener, and though Diego Costa got a goal back for Chelsea in the second half, Liverpool held on for their second straight win at Stamford Bridge under Jurgen Klopp.
Lovren met Philippe Coutinho’s long cross on the volley to give Liverpool the lead in the 17th minute with a fine finish.
But Henderson went one better on 36 minutes as Gary Cahill’s poor clearance came to him beyond the box and the midfielder delivered his shot into the opposite top corner of the net past a helpless Thibaut Courtois.
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge seemed to be struggling early in the second half and was replaced by the Divock Origi, and within four minutes Chelsea were on the scoresheet.
Nemanja Matic carried the ball to the touchline past two sliding Liverpool defenders and pulled the ball back for Costa, who tapped in his fifth Premier League goal of the season on 61 minutes.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte brought on Pedro, Cesc Fabregas and Victor Moses all at once with six minutes to play, but Chelsea could not find an equaliser and Liverpool pulled level with their hosts on 10 points after five games.
