PCB media release hint Babar Azam’s removal as captain after dismal show in World Cup so far | CWC2023

Xtra Time Web Desk: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday issued a press statement hinting the removal of Babar Azam as captain after the team’s dismal show in ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The loss against Afghanistan has dented Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semi-final. Babar Azam and his boys have lost three out of five matches in the league stage so far.

Following the team’s loss to Afghanistan, the fans back home, including ex-cricketers, have slammed Babar for his lack of leadership. The Men in Green has been found wanting to play as a cohesive unit.

Looking at the amount of criticism and hate that Pakistan cricket team has got in the past few days, PCB has released a statement asking the fans to continue to support the Men in Green. “The PCB acknowledges the emotions and sentiments of cricket fans following the three consecutive defeats faced by the national team in the ICC World Cup 2023. In this challenging environment, the board administration hopes that the cricketing fraternity and fans will continue to support captain Babar Azam and the entire Pakistan cricket team,” the release states.

PCB in the press release mentioned that Babar and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq were given the freedom to choose the side for the World Cup. The release says that the board will make decisions in the best interest of Pakistan cricket based on the team’s performance at the World Cup.
