P.V. Sindhu and Lakshya Sen advance to the semi-finals of the Canada Open

Xtra Time Web Desk: PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen have reached the semifinals of the Canada Open Super 500 tournament.

On Friday night, Sindhu emerged victorious in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles. She defeated China’s Fang Jie with scores of 21-13 and 21-7. As a result, Sindhu will face Japan’s Yamaguchi, who holds the world number one rank, in the semifinals.

However, Sindhu has a good record against Yamaguchi in head-to-head matchups. She is leading Yamaguchi by a margin of 14-10 in their previous encounters. But in the last year’s Singapore Open, Yamaguchi managed to defeat Sindhu.

On the other hand, in the men’s singles quarterfinals, Lakshya Sen secured a victory against Germany’s Julien Carraggi. He lost the first set 21-8 but made a remarkable comeback in the next two sets, winning 21-17 and 21-10. Consequently, Lakshya will face Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto, who is ranked fourth globally, in the semifinals.
