Asian Games: India wins 8 medals on Day 9; three more medals assured
Monday turned out to be a highly successful day for India at the Asian Games, with the country winning a total of eight medals on Day 9. India also secured three more medals in boxing, with athletes booking their places in the semifinals. The medals on the day came from athletics, shooting and kurash, although several Indian competitors narrowly missed out on podium finishes.

The medals on the day came from athletics, shooting and kurash, although several Indian competitors narrowly missed out on podium finishes.
Of the eight medals won on Monday, four were silver and four were bronze. India enjoyed a double podium finish in the men's javelin throw, with Yashvir Singh winning silver and Rohit Yadav taking bronze. Murali Sreeshankar added another silver in the men's long jump, while Gulveer Singh claimed his second medal of the Games with a silver in the 10,000m.
In shooting, Esha Singh won silver in the women's 25m pistol event. Vithya Ramraj, Parul Chaudhary and Pinky Balhara also contributed bronze medals to India's tally.
India's boxing contingent also guaranteed three more medals after Lovlina Borgohain, Priya and Kapil Pokhariya won their respective quarterfinal bouts and progressed to the semifinals.
The men's javelin event produced a memorable double for India despite the absence of Neeraj Chopra. Yashvir secured the silver medal, while Rohit Yadav finished with bronze. Gulveer Singh, meanwhile, added a silver in the 10,000m to the medal he had already won earlier in the Games.
Murali Sreeshankar also delivered a fighting performance to win silver despite competing with an injury.
India also produced a dominant performance in men's hockey, thrashing Bangladesh 10-0 in their Pool A match. Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat-trick, while Abhishek also found the net three times. India will now face Pakistan in the semifinal, setting up another highly anticipated contest.
