OMG! Sourav Ganguly’s remarks on Ravi Shastri sparks controversies

XtraTime Web Desk: Former India Captain Sourav Ganguly mocks India coach Ravi Shastri in a light-hearted spirit, as he said in a chat show, “You should never do your breakfast show with him. He doesn’t even know what he is saying in the morning. There is nothing in his head in the morning, he forgets everything during the morning.” Ganguly made that statement when he was asked about the incident of missing the team bus. As per Ganguly this incident never happened. Earlier while talking about this on the set of Gaurav Kapur show ‘BreakfastWithChampions” Shastri opened up about this incident which happened in Bangladesh in the year 2007.

Shastri cited that “I think that’s [Discipline] a habit. I take great pride in having that habit. You know because I am never one to give excuses. If you are called somewhere I think decency demands that you are punctual. And it’s a great quality in any human being…especially if you are involved with a team. And that’s why even in our team punctuality is paramount.

“If the bus leaves at 9, it will leave at 9. I remember once.. and only once I have had to take the bus early.. This was in Bangladesh when I first became manager in 2007.

“So the first practice session was in Chittagong I think. We were supposed to leave at 9 am and it got to 9 am.

“So I said, ‘Let’s go. All the guys from the back, the local managers and all, they came back.. they said Dada (Sourav Ganguly) has not come yet. I said, Dada can come separately. Let’s go’. I think after that every time we left for practice, Sourav arrived 10 minutes before,” Shastri said.

During, the show Ganguly revealed quite a few childhood memories with Sachin Tendulkar. He recalled the day when as a 14-year-old Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli had poured several buckets of water in his room. Ganguly recalled that he and his roommate were sleeping during the afternoon time.

It was a camp in which both the teenagers were attending. Ganguly recalled when he woke up he thought the pipe inside the bathroom had broken. However, it was only after opening the main door that he realized it was Tendulkar and Kambli who poured the bucket of water.

When Ganguly asked what the issue was, Sachin said why he would sleep in the afternoon. He then asked Ganguly to go out for a tennis ball cricket session.

Ganguly further stated during the camp Tendulkar would literally bat all day. The manager of the camp Vasu Paranjape had to force him out of the nets by saying the camp is there for other kids.

Ganguly then relieved the memories of Tendulkar’s sleepwalking habit. He has seen the champion batsman very closely and has seen different changes as he grew up.
