National junior boxing champion arrested for helping murder accused fleeing

Internet Desk: Trying hand in snatching convict from police, Indian national level junior boxing champion has been sent to jail. Feather 57kg boxer dreaming for Olympic caught by police while using his sporting quality for wrong cause. Delhi police arrested Boxer Deepak Pahal alias (21)in charge of robbery and voluntary causing hurt to deter public servant from discharge of duty.

On 30th July Deepak along with nine others attacked a police bus carrying gang leader Jitender alias Gogi from Rohini jail in north Delhi to a Sonepat court.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Bhisam Singh said, “They overpowered the guards by throwing chili powder in their eyes, and also fired one round. They also snatched a rifle from one of the police personnel, who forced the driver to stop the bus at Bahadurgarh.”

On the day of their mission Deepak had arranged the two cars — a Hyundai i20 and a Maruti SX4 — in which the gang members accosted the bus and drove away with Jitender. The Hyundai i20 was a stolen vehicle.

Deepak was the Junior Feather 57kg Champion of 2011. He was declared the best boxer of Haryana in 2014. He also represented India in international tournaments.

According to Delhi police, in 2014 Deepak had picked up a fight at a hostel with a fellow boxer. “Deepak landed a blow on the other boxer, and broke his teeth. This resulted in an expulsion, and he got in touch with Gogi gang members, who encouraged him to enter the crime world.

Tuesday police declared, “A tip-off on August 2 that a member of the Gogi gang, who played a crucial role in this crime, would come to Gandhi Nagar in Sonepat. A trap was laid, and Deepak was arrested”.
