Internet Desk: A galaxy of stars have missed out on Lionel Messi’s invitation list for his wedding to Antonella Roccuzzo at his hometown of Rosario. The names would certainly raise the eyebrows of many.
While team-mates Luis Suarez, Neymar and Gerard Pique are among the 260 guests in attendance at the intimate ceremony, there was no invite for former bosses Pep Guardiola, most of the Argentina squad or legend Diego Maradona.
According to Argentine newspaper La Nacion, Messi, not one for the limelight, has opted for a wedding day with only his nearest and dearest invited while only four of his international team-mates – Sergio Aguero, Javier Mascherano, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Angel Di Maria – were asked to attend.
The same publication also claims Maradona is in Cuba before travelling to Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin.
As well, no Real Madrid players have been invited including his rival for top spot on the field, Cristiano Ronaldo.
One absentee who was given an invite but unable to make it to Argentina is captain and friend Andres Iniesta who has just become a father for the third time and will instead remain in Catalonia with his family.
Former Barcelona players who will be there include Xavi, Carles Puyol and Samuel Eto’o.
While current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will not be at the ceremony, there was no invite either for Messi’s most recent boss, Luis Enrique.
No other coaching staff were asked. A Barcelona official told La Nacion that ‘Leo said that he will do something in Barcelona with us.’
