Injured India pacer Mohammed Shami hopes to start bowling in the nets from this month, saying his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has been in the right direction. Shami has been out of action since World Cup due to a knee problem and recently underwent a surgery. He missed out on Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Bangladesh tour. Shami arrived in Kolkata from Bengaluru last evening . He was at the Pankaj Gupta Indoor Centre today morning to carry out his rehab programme according to a chart prepared by NCA . He was seen doing swimming along with CAB physical trainer Gautam Deb . At times he was seen doing some work out with the legs which will act as strength training and also increase the endurance . Shami himself is quite confident about bowling at the nets shortly .

“I hope to start bowling in the nets shortly. I am now in a comfort zone and my body is not feeling tight. There is no problem and I am slowly increasing the weight,” Shami, who took 17 wickets in seven World Cup matches, told Xtra Time .

Shami said he was focussed on completing his rehabilitation process rather than talking to former pacemen who are regular visitors at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

“It is not necessary to get tips from the international players because now I am most of the time with doctor and the physio. In my reckoning, this is more important for me at this point of time,” he said.

Asked how difficult it will be for him to get back into the Indian team with stiff competition for spots, Shami said, “Whoever performs well, should be in the team.”
