Five-time world champion MC Mary Kom have failed to qualify for the final of the Oympic Test event in Rio on her first competitive appearance in over a year . The London Olympics bronze medalist have been nursing a shoulder injury that she suffered on her way to winning the gold medal at the Asian Games in Incheon last year . Mary lost on points to Virginia Fuchs of United States in Rio , the host city for the 2016 Olympic Ganes . The loss in the semis will not affect Mary’s participation in Olympics nect year , as she has assured herself and India for at least a bronze medal at the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) Olympic Test event in Rio de Janeiro
Earlier the Indian boxer had defeated Venezuela’s Karlha Magliocco 3-0 in the quarterfinal bout of the event, where boxers have been individually invited by the world body and the Rio Olympics organising committee.
Four other Indians, in the men’s draw, also bowed out of the ongoing competition after losing in the semifinals, bringing an end to India’s campaign. Former Commonwealth Games gold-medalist Manoj Kumar (64kg) lost to Britain’s Samuel Maxwell, while World Championships quarter-finalist Satish Kumar (+91kg) was also defeated by a Briton in Frazer Clarke..Gidelson De Oliveira defeated Parveen Kumar (91kg) and Shyam Kakara (51kg), on the other hand, went down to Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan.
