Xtra Time Web Desk: Former Australian speedster Brett Lee has proposed an intriguing option to address India’s ongoing fast-bowling concerns ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy next month. While India is currently focused on their home Test series against New Zealand, Australia's top players have already begun preparations in the Sheffield Shield ahead of their summer series. The Indian side is closely monitoring Mohammad Shami’s fitness, as the senior pacer’s readiness for the first Test in Perth on November 22 remains uncertain. Shami has stated he is pain-free and could participate later in the series, yet Lee has advised India to keep a backup plan in place.

Lee’s pick for India’s pace attack is the young sensation Mayank Yadav, who recently returned from a stress fracture and debuted in T20Is against Bangladesh. Known for his express pace, Mayank clocked 157 kmph in his first IPL appearance but faced a setback with an early injury. The 22-year-old has been training with India’s Test squad as a traveling reserve and, despite having played just one First-Class match, remains on the radar for the Australia tour.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, Lee highlighted India’s unique approach to fast-tracking emerging players. “The great thing about India is they aren’t worried about experience alone. I love that approach,” Lee remarked. “High 150s pace is intimidating, and no batter wants to face that.” He suggested Mayank could be an impactful option if Shami isn’t fit for the opening Test, emphasizing that Australia’s pace-friendly wickets could suit him well.

Lee further stressed that a fully-fit Shami will be essential for India to maintain their winning streak in Australia. He pointed out that the trio of Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, combined with Ravichandran Ashwin’s spin, will be crucial for India’s chances, especially on grounds like Perth and Adelaide.
