Xtra Time Web Desk: Shubman Gill recently revealed one of his favorite moments from the 2013 Champions Trophy final, recalling MS Dhoni’s rare animated celebration after India’s thrilling five-run victory over England in Birmingham.

As India gears up for the upcoming Champions Trophy in February, Gill reminisced about the unforgettable final, highlighting how a usually composed Dhoni jumped in excitement after the batter and wicketkeeper both missed the final delivery. He also fondly remembered the celebratory scenes that followed, with the Indian team dancing in the iconic white winners’ blazer.

"I remember watching it from home. Whenever I think of that Champion’s Trophy, there are a couple of things that I remember. One is Mahi bhai jumping when he missed the Ashwin bhai ball, and I think they (England) needed five runs off the last ball. The batsman misses, and then the commentators say, ‘The batsman misses, Dhoni misses, but it doesn’t matter,’ and then everybody is jumping and then seeing everyone dancing in the white coat when they were getting that trophy," Gill recalled.

Now, as he prepares to represent India in the 2025 Champions Trophy, Gill expressed his hunger to compete in the prestigious tournament, which he had dreamed of playing in since childhood.

"I’m definitely very hungry, and it is something that you always dream of as a kid, and I’ve played one ICC tournament and came very close to winning a senior men’s trophy," he told ICC.

With only eight teams competing, Gill expects an intense battle with no room for mistakes.

"There is no space for defeat only. I think the top teams are playing, and it’s very exciting and very grueling, and you know that you don’t have any margin of error, so that is very exciting," he added.

As one of India’s key batters, Gill will play a crucial role in the team’s quest to reclaim the Champions Trophy title after 12 years.
