Shakib stirs controversy again and gets banned! What happened this time?
Xtra Time Web Desk: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been barred from bowling in England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) competitions after his bowling action was deemed illegal.
The 37-year-old was reported by umpires during his sole appearance for Surrey in the County Championship against Somerset in September 2024. Following an independent assessment at Loughborough University, it was determined that the elbow extension in Shakib's action exceeded the permissible 15-degree limit.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in ECB competitions following an independent assessment of his bowling action.

The suspension, effective from December 10, 2024, will remain in place until Shakib successfully undergoes a reassessment of his action. Shakib, who has not signed a county contract for 2025, remains ineligible to bowl in ECB competitions.
In Surrey's crucial clash against Somerset, Shakib impressed with nine wickets despite his team's 111-run loss. Surrey eventually claimed the County Championship title.
