IPL 2025: Do you know the youngest player in IPL auction history? Find out here
Xtra Time Web Desk: In a historic milestone, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest player ever to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the list of 574 players for the highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, scheduled to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25, with Suryavanshi’s inclusion capturing widespread attention.
A left-handed batter from Bihar, Suryavanshi occupies the 491st spot in the uncapped batter category (UBA9) and is part of the 68th set of players listed. Despite his tender age, the young prodigy’s First-Class debut in January 2024 and his impressive performances in the India U19 vs. Australia U19 Youth Test series have set him apart. His standout moment came during the first Youth Test, where he scored a century, showcasing his immense potential on the international stage.

While his First-Class stats are modest — five matches, 100 runs in 10 innings with a top score of 41 — Suryavanshi’s inclusion in the auction signals a shift in franchise focus toward nurturing young, raw talent. His temperament and skill have already earned him a spot in India’s U19 Asia Cup squad. India will kick off their campaign in the tournament with a marquee clash against Pakistan on November 30.
Notable Absentees: Jofra Archer and Cheteshwar Pujara
The auction list, however, was marked by the absence of some prominent names, including Jofra Archer and Cheteshwar Pujara. Archer, a star pacer who previously represented Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, did not make the cut, likely due to a lack of interest from franchises. Veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara was another notable omission, continuing his trend of being overlooked in IPL auctions in recent years.
