Xtra Time Web Desk: Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, once considered a sure-shot retention for Delhi Capitals, is now facing uncertainty ahead of the IPL mega auction, according to a report in The Times of India. Despite earlier statements by the franchise’s co-owner, Parth Jindal, naming Pant as their top retention, recent developments have thrown the plan into question.

The report indicates that Delhi Capitals are reassessing their decision to retain Pant due to a significant restructuring in the franchise’s operations. The GMR group has taken over the management of Delhi Capitals for the next two years, which has slowed down the finalization of Pant’s retention.

Although the franchise is keen on retaining Pant, several logistical issues need to be ironed out between the GMR and JSW groups, who are sharing responsibilities for the team. With GMR managing the franchise for the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons and JSW handling the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and Pretoria Capitals during the same period, these complexities are delaying the decision.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings have reportedly expressed interest in Pant as a potential captaincy candidate, adding further intrigue to the situation. The decision now lies firmly with Delhi Capitals as they navigate this transitional phase.

In recent announcements, Venugopal Rao and Hemang Badani were appointed as director of cricket and head coach, respectively, while Sourav Ganguly will oversee JSW Sports’ cricket operations for the WPL and Pretoria Capitals. Ganguly’s role with the men’s team remains uncertain during this period.

“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the JSW Group and the Jindal family personally and professionally, which made this an easy decision,” Ganguly said, expressing his excitement about the collaboration.

Parth Jindal added, "Dada has always had a special place at JSW Sports. For us, he is family first and then the cricketing icon that he is."
