Sarfaraz Khan played a stroke-filled century in Bengaluru, helping India erase New Zealand's massive 350+ run lead. After being dismissed for a three-ball duck in the first innings, the Mumbai batter made a remarkable comeback in the second, displaying an aggressive approach. He entered the match in sublime form, having scored a match-winning double century in the Irani Trophy, and carried that momentum into this Test.

In the 57th over, Sarfaraz brought up his century with a boundary off Tim Southee. Celebrating with his hands aloft, he ran with his bat held high, removed his helmet, and pointed his bat towards the dressing room. This feat made him only the 22nd Indian batter to register a duck and a century in the same Test match, with Shubman Gill being the most recent, achieving the same against Bangladesh in Chennai.
