Both Kohli and Tendulkar have showcased their dominance on home soil, while Rohit Sharma is the closest among current players, though he remains nearly 3,500 runs behind Kohli.

At 35, Kohli is anticipated to extend his career until the 2027 ODI World Cup. He recently stepped away from T20I cricket after a match-winning innings against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 Final in Barbados. Kohli also had a strong performance during the 2024 Indian Premier League and will have four more home Test matches before the Indian squad travels to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
