Xtra Time Web Desk: Shoaib Akhtar has expressed confidence in Virat Kohli's resurgence, predicting that the star Indian batter will shine against his favorite rivals, Pakistan, in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Speaking to SportsTak, Akhtar described the India-Pakistan clash in Dubai on February 23 as a "cracker of a contest," anticipating a thrilling battle between cricket's fiercest rivals.

"If you want Virat Kohli back in form, tell him there’s a match against Pakistan. He will wake up. We’ve seen it before, like his iconic knock in Melbourne during the T20 World Cup. He will get up and running," said Akhtar.

India-Pakistan: A Rivalry Rekindled

India’s Group A schedule kicks off against Bangladesh on February 19, followed by the marquee clash with Pakistan just three days later. While Pakistan is hosting the ICC tournament for the first time since 1996, India will play its games in Dubai, with other matches taking place in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.

Akhtar, while rooting for Pakistan, highlighted the potential for a high-octane game:
"Imagine Kohli scoring runs for India, Babar Azam leading for Pakistan, and Shaheen Afridi and Jasprit Bumrah delivering fiery spells. It could be a match for the ages."

Kohli’s Form: A Cause for Concern?

The Champions Trophy could be crucial for senior Indian players like Kohli and Rohit Sharma, whose recent form has been under scrutiny. Kohli, in particular, had a lackluster Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scoring just 190 runs in five Tests at an average of 23. However, his stellar record against Pakistan — 52.15 in ODIs and 70.28 in T20Is — keeps him in focus for the clash.

A BCCI source revealed that the performances of senior players in the Champions Trophy might influence their future in the Indian team.

Pakistan's Expectations

For Pakistan, Akhtar highlighted the importance of openers Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub, should they play together, as a "destructive" pair that could challenge any opposition. Reflecting on Pakistan’s historic Champions Trophy win over India in 2017, Akhtar expressed hope for an evenly fought contest in the Dubai clash.

As both teams prepare for one of cricket’s biggest rivalries, the spotlight will be on Kohli, whose past heroics against Pakistan continue to inspire belief in his potential to deliver when it matters most.
