Xtra Time Web Desk: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to cheer for Team India in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, as he features in a fun promotional video for the tournament. The much-anticipated event kicks off on February 19 and will be co-hosted by Pakistan and the UAE. With just over 20 days remaining, Dhoni’s appearance in the promo adds excitement to the buildup.

In the video, Dhoni, known for his composure under pressure, humorously admits that staying cool as a captain was easier than watching the tournament as a fan. The 2013 Champions Trophy-winning skipper also emphasized the tournament’s high stakes, where even a single defeat could jeopardize a team’s chances. To handle the pressure, he jokingly introduces the ‘Dhoni Refrigeration System’ to keep himself cool ahead of the intense action.

“When I was captain, it was easy to remain cool, but watching the Champions Trophy as a fan won’t be the same. Our team is strong, but if we lose one game, we are almost out. The tension has made the temperature soar,” Dhoni said in the promo shared by Star Sports.

India to begin campaign vs Bangladesh on February 20

Dhoni led India in two editions of the Champions Trophy—in 2009 and 2013. Under his captaincy, a young Indian squad lifted the 2013 title, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. In a bold move, Dhoni opted for a youthful side, leaving out veterans like Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, and Gautam Gambhir. His gamble paid off spectacularly as India dominated opponents with all-round performances.

Four years later, India reached the final of the 2017 edition but suffered a crushing 180-run defeat against Pakistan. With Pakistan now co-hosting the 2025 tournament, India will be eager to avenge that loss. Their campaign begins against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a marquee clash against Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai.
