Xtra Time Web Desk: In a spectacular return to form, Ishan Kishan announced his presence in the Duleep Trophy 2024 with a dazzling century for India C against India B at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B. Making a late addition to India C’s playing XI, Kishan took on the role of specialist batter, with Abhishek Porel handling wicketkeeping duties. Kishan seized the opportunity with both hands, reaching three figures in just 119 balls, marking his 7th first-class century.

Kishan, who made his first-class debut for Jharkhand at the age of 16 in 2014, and had an impressive start with a hundred and five fifties in his first ten matches, showed his prowess once again. His innings came at a crucial time after India C faced setbacks. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad retired hurt early in the innings, and quick dismissals of Sai Sudharsan and Rajat Patidar added to the pressure. Despite the early blows, Sudharsan’s 43 and Patidar’s 40 helped stabilize the innings with a 92-run partnership.

Kishan walked in after Patidar’s departure and quickly made his presence felt. He reached his fifty off just 48 balls and, alongside Baba Indrajith, who also scored a solid half-century, formed a formidable partnership. Their 150-plus stand put India C in a commanding position.

Kishan’s return is particularly notable as he had been absent from the Indian team following a withdrawal from the Test squad against South Africa in December last year, citing mental health reasons. With former India head coach Rahul Dravid and BCCI secretary Jay Shah emphasizing the need for domestic play to regain form, Kishan’s performance is a significant step towards rejoining the Indian team.

Kishan was originally named in India D for the first round but missed the match due to a groin injury, leading to Sanju Samson’s inclusion as his replacement. Unexpectedly, Kishan’s name reappeared in the India C squad, making a remarkable comeback on Day 1 of their match against India B.
