Xtra Time Web Desk: Australia’s ace spinner Nathan Lyon has made a bold prediction ahead of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to begin in November this year. Despite India retaining the coveted title for the last decade, including memorable series wins in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21, Lyon is confident that the hosts will secure a 5-0 clean sweep. Australia’s last whitewash in this series dates back to 2011.

Speaking to Alyssa Healy on the Willow Talk podcast, Lyon shared that he has been closely following India’s cricketing journey and has had his sights set on this series for a while. “I started thinking about this series when England were over in India, watching them to go about it... My prediction is 5-0 to Australia,” Lyon stated.

Lyon further emphasized the need for Australia’s batters to score big runs against India’s formidable bowling attack. He challenged the likes of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Travis Head to aim for massive totals. “I don’t want 101 or 107, I want 180 and 200,” Lyon added.

As the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 121 wickets from 27 matches, Lyon is gearing up for the first-ever five-match series between the two nations, set to kick off on November 22 in Perth.
