Xtra Time Web Desk: Delhi Capitals Head Coach Ricky Ponting arrived in India on Monday. The former Australian captain joined the DC squad on the day of Holi in Mumbai. Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 10 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With Ponting joining the squad, it is expected the franchise will soon finalize the captain for the IPL 2021 season as Shreyas Iyer is ruled out due to a dislocated shoulder.

Ponting took to Twitter on Sunday to announce his arrival in India. He tweeted,  “Staying safe, on my way to join @delhicapitals and get things started for #IPL2021. Can’t wait.”

According to reports in Inside Sport the Delhi Capitals promoters Kiran Kumar Gandhi and Parth Jindal along with coach Ricky Ponting will huddle together post his arrival to decide on the name of DC’s captain for IPL 2021.

Team India’s wicket keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is the frontrunner for the post of captaincy. Pant was also the deputy of Shreyas Iyer last season in IPL 2020.  DC Promoters, Coach and few other members of management is likely to give their seal of approval for the same, though according to the sources deliberation on few other names is not ruled out.

Along with Pant, there are a few more names making rounds like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith.
