Xtra Time Web Desk: India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah issued a strong statement ahead of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener against Australia in Perth. Bumrah expressed confidence in Virat Kohli’s readiness and preparation, dismissing concerns about the star batter's recent form.
Jasprit Bumrah played down concerns around Virat Kohli's recent form, talking up the impact that he has had in Australia. The fast bowler, who will lead India for only the second time in his career, recalled playing under Virat Kohli when he toured Australia the first time.
Virat Kohli headed to Australia with concerns surrounding his form. He managed just 93 runs in three Tests against New Zealand in the series in which India were blanked 0-3 in a shocking result at home.

"I don't have to say anything about Virat Kohli, the batter. He is one of the greats of the game. I don't need to give him any special input. He is the utmost professional. He is one of the leaders. I made my debut under him. He knows what he is doing. Okay, one or two series, here and there, can up and down," Jasprit Bumrah said on Thursday, November 21.
Kohli, who struggled against New Zealand earlier this year, amassing just 93 runs in three Tests, heads into the series with questions about his form. However, Bumrah emphasized that Kohli’s current mindset and preparation are spot-on. But, the confidence he has at this moment, "I have no doubts about how he has prepared. He is looking to contribute. The signs are ominous, I don't want to jinx it by saying anything else, but he is looking in very good shape,." he added.

Kohli has a stellar record in Australia, averaging 54 with six centuries in 13 Tests. His ability to thrive on bouncy tracks was evident earlier this year during India’s tour of South Africa, and he remains a vital cog for the visitors, especially in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
Australian media and former cricketers have also taken note of Kohli’s presence, with several newspapers highlighting his popularity and past exploits. Amid the buzz, Bumrah exuded confidence, saying Kohli’s focus and preparation indicate he’s ready to rise to the occasion once more.
India will lean on Kohli’s experience as they face a formidable Australian side in challenging condition.
