BGT 2024-25: Which star's all-time record did Jasprit Bumrah break to reach the top in Australia?
Xtra Time Web Desk: Jasprit Bumrah equaled Kapil Dev's record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in Australia on Day 5 of the Gabba Test on Wednesday, December 18. Bumrah claimed his 51st wicket on Australian soil when he dismissed Usman Khawaja, leveling with the legendary Kapil Dev.
Bumrah has been India's standout performer in the ongoing series and currently leads the wicket-taking charts. In the Gabba Test, he delivered a spectacular 6-wicket haul in the first innings while others struggled. His outstanding performance brought him to this milestone, and he is now close to surpassing Kapil Dev's record. After a resilient batting effort that saw India reach 260, Bumrah was ready to make his mark again in the second innings.

He continued to trouble the Australian batters, claiming the wicket of Khawaja, who has been out of form, on his birthday. This marked the fourth time Bumrah had dismissed Khawaja in the series. In the very next over, Bumrah induced a false shot from Marnus Labuschagne, which was caught by Rishabh Pant. Bumrah has now taken 20 wickets in the series, with an impressive average of under 11.
All of Bumrah's wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy have come in Australia, as he has yet to face Australia on Indian soil.
