Xtra Time Web Desk: The fitness of Travis Head has come under scrutiny and is currently a major talking point in the Australian cricketing world after he picked up a quad injury during the third Test in Brisbane. He was spotted limping between wickets during Australia’s second innings, raising concerns about his availability for the next match.

On Monday, Head skipped the optional practice session, further fueling speculation. On Tuesday, he spent only about 20 minutes at the nets, facing throw-downs from assistant coach Brad Hodge, suggesting he might still be nursing the injury.

Head was also seen having a discussion with head coach Andrew McDonald and physiotherapist Nick Jones. Later, McDonald addressed the media, confirming that Head is likely to be available for the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

"Pretty sure Travis Head will play, but there are a few boxes to be ticked. The chat was mostly about his fielding position and what he can do there," McDonald said.

"I thought he looked good with the bat in his hands, so obviously the skills are in good order. It will just be what risk is associated with that," he added.

"But no concerns from my end. He's been able to do his running, so I think he'll be functional come game time."

A vital cog in the Australian batting lineup, much will depend on Head’s performance in the fourth Test against India as Australia looks to take the lead in the series.
