Xtra Time Web Desk: Rohit Sharma, the current Indian Test skipper is all set to miss the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after the birth of his second child on Friday, 15th of November. according to the sources, Rohit has already informed BCCI and other stakeholders about his decision.

Rohit Sharma's wife Ritika Sajdeh gave birth to a baby boy on Friday, and it has been learnt that he wants to spent time with his wife and young family for few days. The reports that Rohit Sharma would miss the opening Test against Australia first emerged before the New Zealand series, and with the news almost confirm now, Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead India in the Perth Test.

"Yes, Rohit Sharma will not be featuring in the first Test. He wants to spend some more time with his family and the new-born and the Indian cricket board completely respects his deicison," says an official. 

The rest of the Indian players from the BGT squad are already in Australia while Rohit Sharma is in Mumbai and was also seen working on his batting and fitness in the capital of Maharashtra. The first Test will be played from 22nd of November while the second Test will be played from 6th of December in Adelaide. Rohit is likely to join the team before the second Test, but with Rohit ruled out and doubt over participation of Shubman Gill due to injury, Abhimanyu Easwaran looks all set to make his Test debut.

India have won their previous two Test series in Australia but they are coming into this series on the back of a whitewash by the Kiwis at home, and would need their senior players to step up, if they want to strike a hattrick Down Under.
