Xtra Time Web Desk: India's Test squad has kicked off preparations for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, opting for a strategic training session at the WACA ground in Perth. The ground has been covered with nets, restricting public view, a setup reminiscent of India's visit during the 2022 T20 World Cup. This time, heavy restrictions have been placed on staff, including limitations on phone usage, to maintain privacy.

Virat Kohli was the first Indian player to arrive in Perth, followed by the rest of the squad on Monday, in advance of the series opener against Australia on November 22 at the Optus Stadium. However, there is still no official update on captain Rohit Sharma’s availability for this crucial Test match.

The Indian team was initially set to play a practice game against the India A squad, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, which was already in Australia for a series against Australia A. However, the BCCI opted for a match simulation instead, canceling the practice match to minimize the risk of injuries.

Rohit explained that the team management chose match simulation over a practice match to maximize players' time in the middle. “Rather than a practice game, we wanted a simulation where batters could face around 50-70 balls, and bowlers could get in significant bowling time,” Rohit said, emphasizing that this approach would allow players to manage workload effectively.
