BGT 2024-25: Ashwin shares heartfelt goodbye following sudden retirement announcement
Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin recently took to Instagram to share an emotional message with his fans, just days after revealing his decision to retire from international cricket. Following the announcement, Ashwin posted a picture of himself seated on the team bus, the Indian flag visible in the background. His caption, quoting the famous line “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. #onelove,” captured his gratitude and love for the game and his supporters.
The post resonated deeply with fans, many of whom were left surprised and emotional by Ashwin’s sudden retirement. It served as a simple yet poignant farewell to a remarkable cricketing journey. Ashwin, known for being one of the most successful spinners in the world, made his retirement announcement amidst the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. The timing left many in shock, especially after the third Test draw in Brisbane, where Ashwin chose that moment to announce his decision alongside captain Rohit Sharma.

Rohit later revealed that Ashwin had discussed his retirement plans at the beginning of the Australia tour, with the captain convincing the spinner to play the second Test in Adelaide. When questioned about Ashwin retiring before the end of the series, Rohit supported his decision, affirming that Ashwin had every right to retire on his own terms.
Ashwin also reflected on his extraordinary career, expressing disbelief at his achievements. “But if somebody had told me in 2011 that I would be getting so many wickets, I'd be retiring in 2024 on December the 18th. I wouldn't have believed them because I knew that this is a game that I loved, but I never did expect that I would get so much love and so many wickets and so many runs as well. I'm very glad, deep sense of gratitude for everyone that supported me, everyone that's challenged me. So happy today. Thank you,” he shared.
