KL Rahul & Shreyas Iyer undergoes match simulation practice at NCA

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant shared a small clip of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer that will make all the fans happy. The duo is seen undergoing match simulation at the National Cricket Academy in the Instagram story shared by Rishabh Pant.

This is a much-needed boost for the Indian team management, with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul taking crucial steps towards full fitness. Both players recently participated in a practice match at the NCA (National Cricket Academy) following their initial training in the nets. Although initially deemed unlikely for Asia Cup selection, their impressive batting performances in the practice game have thrown a positive twist into the mix.

The Asia Cup, slated for 2023, is a crucial event, and the Indian team aims to field their optimal World Cup XI. However, a prolonged recovery period for both Iyer and Rahul could jeopardize these plans. The selectors face a challenging decision regarding the risk of pushing the players into match action, as their talent is undeniable, but their fitness is paramount.

Ajit Agarkar led selection committee are expected to announce the Asia Cup squad this week. The players will undergo a camp at the NCA starting on August 23 before heading to Sri Lanka later in the month. Throughout this period, the fitness progress of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul will be closely monitored, and a prudent decision will be made to ensure the team’s best interests in both the Asia Cup and the upcoming World Cup.

Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid too sounded optimistic about the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.

According to Dravid, “We have a few guys coming back from injuries in any case. We are going to have to give them opportunities to play (in Asia Cup). I haven’t really thought about Asia Cup at this stage. We have a one week camp in Bengaluru from August 23. We’ll be assembling there as a one-day team. We will take it as it comes,” Rahul Dravid after the IND vs WI series.
