It came as a shock : Proteas head coach Mark Boucher reacts to Quinton de Kock’s retirement from Test cricket

Xtra Time Web Desk : The year of 2021 was a roller coaster one for Quinton de Kock as he started the year as the Proteas’ Test skipper only to retire at the end of it. The retirement decision which was announced by the South African wicketkeeper-batter on December 30, came as a shock to most of the cricket enthusiasts over the world. And now the Proteas Head Coach Mark Boucher has opened up on the 29 year old’s shock decision.


In a recent interview, Boucher said, “You do not expect anyone of his caliber to retire at that age. It came as a shock. But we fully respect his reasons. It’s sad, but we’ll have to keep going. We’re in the middle of a series and we cannot wonder about it for too long. We need to focus on the guys who come in his place and hopefully, they can do something similar to what Quinny offered us. He had a fantastic Test career.”


De Kock however announced his retirement as said that he wanted to spend more time with his growing family. Notably, the southpaw and his wife Sasha are expecting their first child in the coming days.
