ISL Transfer: Mohun Bagan Super Giants’ sign Anirudh Thapa for a record amount for 5 years

Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan Super Giants have signed Chennaiyin FC captain Anirudh Thapa for a record Rs 3 crore per season for a five-year deal. The record transfer makes Thapa the most expensive Indian player in the history of ISL.

The Indian international was on the radar of Mohun Bagan Super Giants since last year. But he chose to sign an extension with Chennaiyin FC. But the record offer from Mariners influenced Thapa to sign for the ISL champions. Mumbai City FC too were interested to have him in their side.

As per IFTWC, Anirudh Thapa is set to earn Rs 3 crore every season with the Mohun Bagan Super Giants. Chennaiyin FC also received Rs 3 crore on the transfer, ending their 6-year association with the Dehradun star.

Thapa is currently with the Indian squad playing in the Intercontinental Cup. He will join his new club after international duty. The 25-year-old will have a big role to play in midfield after MBSG are believed to be parting ways with Hugo Boumous.

The Chennaiyin FC star is the latest big-name signing for MBSG this season. The club also confirmed the signing of A-League superstar Jason Cummings and Anwar Ali.
