Xtra Time Web Desk: Sporting Club East Bengal on Sunday announced the signing of ace India striker Jeje Lalpekhlua for the upcoming ISL season 2020-21. The diminutive striker who plied his trade with Chennaiyin FC for the past six months left the club, sparking rumours that he might switch allegiance with the Red & Gold outfit. At last the rumours did turn true as he will be seen in action for the Red and Gold brigade in the ISL.

In a message shared by the club, Jeje said, “Every footballer in India wants to play for SC East Bengal one day. It is such a big institution. I am thrilled to join SC East Bengal in its first year of taking part in ISL. I cannot wait to don the red and gold colours and give my best every time I take the field.”

The Mizo sniper has played for East Bengal’s city rivals Mohun Bagan for three seasons. He first played for them in the 2014-15 season where he scored one goal in 12 appearances. He then spent two loan spells from Chennaiyin FC at the Kolkata club in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In the 2016 season, he scored four goals in 14 appearances and a year later, he scored five in 17 appearances.

During the 2014-15 season with Mohun Bagan, he was signed by Chennaiyin FC on loan. He scored four goals in 13 appearances in his maiden season in ISL. He played a total 56 matches for Chennaiyin, scoring 19 goals and also winning two ISL titles during his stint with the club for six seasons. He missed out on the 2019-20 season due to an injury.
