Ireland make history by registering its maiden ODI win over Proteas, Captain Balbirnie scores hundred

Xtra Time Web Desk: Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie scored a magnificent hundred (102*) to help his team win its first ever ODI against South Africa by 43 runs at The Village in Dublin on Tuesday. Ireland leads the three match ODI series 1-0 with the first ODI being washed away.

Batting first Ireland posted 291 runs in 50 overs. Balbirnie registered his sixth ODI hundred which was studded with 10 boundaries and a couple of sixes. Harry Tector scored 79 runs while Geroge Dockrell made a quickfire 45.

In reply South Africa could only manage 247 runs before getting bowled out in the 49th over. Opener Janneman Malan top-scored for Proteas with 84 runs. Rassie van der Dussen also scored 49 stitching a third-wicket partnership of 108 runs. The wickets of both set batsmen in a span of seven deliveries derailed South Africa’s run chase.
