IPL 9:Du Plessis blow for Supergiants as he is ruled out for rest of season

Internet Desk: Rising Pune Supergiants have been dealt another major blow with South African batsman Faf du Plessis ruled out for the rest of Indian Premier League with injury a finger injury.

The Proteas T20I captain tweeted the bad news, confirming that he has a broken finger and has been advised rest for 6 weeks.

Du Plesis joins teammate Kevin Pietersen in the injury ward after the ex-England batsman tore his calf muscle during Supergiants’ match with Royal Challengers Bangalore last Friday. Pietersen suffered the injury attempting a quick run from his first ball, but wheeled around in pain and was carried off by the Pune medical staff.

Pietersen is expected to be out of action until November, just in time for his third stint with the Melbourne Stars in the KFC Big Bash League.

Du Plesis was the second leading run-scorer for Supergiants, posting 206 runs at 34.33 with two half-centuries.

Australia batsman Usman Khawaja could replace one of Pietersen or Du Plessis after Pune coach Stephen Fleming said his side was looking at the elegant left-hander.
