IPL 2024: Yash Dayal happy with his redemption, Murali Karthik faces backlash, find out why?

Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India bowler turned commentator Murali Karthik has come under heavy criticism by cricket fans on social media for his comments on Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowler Yash Dayal. While commentating during RCB’s match against Punjab Kings on Sunday, March 25, Karthik referred to Dayal as ‘trash’. To be specific, Karthik said ‘someone’s trash is someone’s treasure’ while describing Dayal during the first innings of the match. This comment has aggregated widespread criticism on social media, along with a series of memes slamming him.

Dayal’s impressive performance during the powerplay of the clash, saw him give away only 10 runs in his first three overs. Karthik referred to Dayal as trash, possibly hinting at Dayal’s performance for GT in the 2023 season of the IPL. Dayal had given away 30+ runs against Rinku Singh in GT’s home game, where KKR had scripted a historical chase. That performance saw Dayal get side lined from the team and eventually get sacked from the side ahead of the auction.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, RCB showcased some brilliant bowling performance by restricting Punjab to a total of 174 runs. Dayal ended his spell against Punjab with impressive figures of 23/1, which played a pivotal role in RCB bowling attack. Dayal picked the most crucial wicket of Sam Curran, who has been high on confidence since his phenomenal 63 off 46 balls innings against Delhi Capitals in Punjab Kings’s season opener.

Speaking to his RCB teammate Mohammed Siraj in a post-match friendly chat, Yash Dayal recalled his haunting past of conceding 5 sixes in a final over against Rinku Singh in a game between the Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad.

He said after the match, “After that match, when I returned to the dressing room, I felt very bad. I was told not to check social media. But, I did check a few comments. I spoke to my family and I was hurting, thinking what people would be thinking about me after that over. In the next two days, I fell ill. It took some time for me to recover and return and focus on playing games,” Yash Dayal told IPL.

“But then, I realised that I am not the first person to experience this and I won’t be the last. So I put it behind and started focusing on the process again. I thought returning to a high-pressure environment would only make me tackle the situation,” he added.
