IPL 2020: Will the next edition also to take place in UAE, BCCI’s MoU signing raises speculation

XtraTime Web Desk: Will the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) take place in the UAE? The cash rich league this season as everyone knows is being staged in UAE because of the rising cases of COVID-19 pandemic in India. In a very important development the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and hosting agreement to boost cricketing ties between the two countries.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted about the same, saying, “I along with Vice Chairman of Emirates Cricket Board, Khalid Al Zarooni signed an MoU & Hosting agreement between @BCCI and @EmiratesCricket to boost the cricketing ties between our countries,”

The BCCI secretary was joined by President Sourav Ganguly and Treasurer Arun Dhumal.

Inside sources say that the MoU signing is also to project UAE as the substitute venue for ICC T20 World Cup next year if suppose the situation does not improve and the event had to be shifted out of the country. With the IPL being slotted from April next year, the cash rich league might return to UAE if the situation is not normal.

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League began with last year’s runners up Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeating reigning champions Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets. The 53 day tournament will be played across three venues in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. The final will be staged at the Dubai International Stadium on November 10.
