Xtra Time Web Desk: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday appointed former captain Inzamam ul Haq as the chief selector for the men’s team ahead of the Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup 2023. Inzamam previously held the same position from 2016 to 2019, during which Pakistan achieved success by winning the Champions Trophy in 2017.

With the Asia Cup 2023 scheduled to begin on 22nd August and the ICC World Cup starting from 5th October in India, Inzamam faces the immediate challenge of selecting the best possible squad for these major tournaments. He has a very short period of time to plan and make crucial decisions on player selection.

The role of chief selector is vital in shaping the team’s composition and strategy, and Inzamam will have to work diligently to assemble a competitive squad capable of performing well in both tournaments. The uncertainty surrounding the extensions of stints for Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn adds to the pressure on Inzamam to make effective choices.

Given his past success as a selector, there will be high expectations for Inzamam to repeat or even surpass his previous achievements. The ICC deadline for team selection is set for 29th August, with a week buffer until 5th September, leaving him with limited time to finalize the squads.

Inzamam’s expertise and experience as a former cricketer and captain could prove valuable in the selection process, but the task at hand won’t be easy. All eyes will be on him as he aims to build a formidable team that can challenge for success in both the Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup 2023.
