The Manchester City star received a yellow card during Spain's 1-0 victory over Italy on Thursday night. Rodri was booked for complaining to the referee just before halftime, a responsibility reserved exclusively for the team's captain.
This booking comes after he was also carded in Spain's 3-0 win against Croatia, leading to his suspension for the crucial Albania clash on Monday. The new regulation, introduced at Euro 2024, aims to prevent players from swarming the referee when decisions are made, thereby maintaining order and discipline on the pitch.

Despite Rodri's absence, Spain has already secured their place in the last 16 of Euro 2024. Their victory over Italy guarantees that they will finish at the top of their group, potentially giving them a more favorable draw in the knockout stages. Rodri's performance has been impressive, with a 100 percent passing success rate (58 out of 58) in the opposition half against Italy. This achievement is the highest in a Euros game since 1980, surpassing Belgium's Dedryck Boyata at Euro 2020 and Denmark's Andreas Christensen earlier this tournament.
