Injury scare for Shardul Thakur during the optional practice session of Indian team at Centurion | SAvsIND

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India all-rounder Shardul Thakur suffered a blow on his left shoulder during the optional training session at the Super Sport Park in Centurion on Saturday. The Mumbaikar after receiving treatment was back in the nets to face throwdowns.   

According to information received from South Africa, no scans or medical treatments have been recommended for Shardul, indicating that there is no significant injury concern. Despite the incident, the sources emphasize that there is no reason for concern regarding Shardul’s fitness, and he is expected to be available for the upcoming match.

Shardul came under a lot of criticism for his lacklustre show in the first test at Centurion. The Indian cricket team was comprehensively beaten by the Proteas by an innings and 32 runs.

During the optional training session, only a limited number of players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, KS Bharat, and Shardul Thakur, were present. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Mohammed Siraj were among the players who skipped the optional practice session.

The Indian team is set to depart from Johannesburg to Cape Town for the second and final Test on Sunday morning. The New Year test will begin at the Newlands stadium from January 3.
