INDvsENG 3rd Test, Day 3: Yashasvi Jaiswal forced to retired hurt after injuring his back

Xtra Time Web Desk: Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased exceptional batting prowess against England on a placid Rajkot pitch, crafting a mesmerizing century that propelled India’s lead beyond the 300-run mark on Day 3 of the third Test in Rajkot. Celebrating his third career century with a spirited jump and air punch, Jaiswal soon found himself in discomfort, holding his back, possibly due to the exuberance of his celebration.

Despite a brief on-field treatment, the young batsman continued but encountered renewed pain after two overs, prompting another visit from the team physio. Unable to endure the discomfort any longer, Jaiswal, having scored a strokeful 104 off 129 deliveries, retired hurt. Rajat Patidar stepped in as his replacement.

Jaiswal’s injury adds to India’s growing list of fitness concerns in the ongoing series. Mohammed Shami is sidelined for the entire series due to an ankle issue, while Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul have also grappled with injuries. Jadeja returned successfully from a hamstring niggle to score a century in the third Test, but Rahul, though named in the squad, remained below 100% fitness and sat out the third Test. The team faces challenges in managing player fitness amid the demanding series against England.
