India’s first female Olympic medalist to have a biopic

Xtra Time Web Desk: 2000 Sydney Olympic Bronze medal winner Karnam Malleswari will have a biopic made on her. The yet to be titled film will be written and produced by Kona Venkat. The biopic will be directed by Sanjana Reddy. The producers are yet to shortlist the actress who will play the role of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award winning weightlifter.

Karnam Malleswari was born in Voosavanipeta in Andhra Pradesh. She started her training for weightlifting at the age of 12. She made the nation proud by winning the bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She had lifted a total of 240 kilos in clean and jerk category to become the first female Olympic medal winner of the country. During her career, she won so many national awards. The notable among them was winning the World Weightlifting Championship twice

She was honored with Arjuna Award in 1994, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1999 and Padma Shree in 1999 but the Government of India.
Earlier the country has seen several biopics being made on sportspersons, the notable among them are Mary Kom, MS Dhoni, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Pan Singh Tomar and Dangal.
