Xtra Time Web Desk: An unambitious fifty from Captain Mithali Raj went in vain as England women thrashed India women by 8 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three match ODI series at Bristol. India women could only manage to score 201/8 from 50 overs. In reply England opener Tammy Beaumont (87) and Nat Sciver (74) shared an unbroken partnership of 119 runs to steer the team home with 91 balls to spare.

India women batted at a pedestrian rate, with 181 dot balls. Mithali Raj scored 72 from 108 deliveries, but did not serve any purpose.

Left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone (3-40) along with  seamers Katherine Brunt (2-35), Anya Shrubsole (2-33) were the successful bowlers for the hosts.

Both sides will meet each other for the second ODI in Taunton on Wednesday.
