India take 2-0 lead in the series, beat Black Caps by 90 runs in 2nd ODI

Ketan Joshi, Mt. Maunganui: India defeated New Zealand by 90 runs in the second ODI played at Mount Maunganui (Tauranga). On the Republic Day, First time India has won the one day international match.

Chasing the target of 325 runs from Team India, New Zealand was all out for 234 runs in 40.2 overs. For him, Doug Bracewell, who batted at number eight, top-scored with 57 runs.  For India,  Kuldeep Yadav got four wickets. With this victory, Team India went ahead 2-0 in the five-match ODI series.

Earlier, India won the toss and chose to bat first and scored 324 for 4 in 50 overs. Rohit Sharma scored 38th half century of his career. Rohit smashed 87 runs in 96 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. He named as Man of the match for his fine half-century. India’s second opener Shikhar Dhawan continues his Napier form and scored 66 runs in 67 balls. Both the opener made 154 runs for the 1st wicket partnership. Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored an unbeaten 48, Ambati Rayudu scored 47 and Captain Virat Kohli scored 43. Trent Bolt and Locky Ferguson took 2-2 wickets for New Zealand.

Team India gave a great gift to the country, thus winning the ODI for the first time on the Republic Day on January 26. The Constitution of India came into force on January 26, 1950, and since then, India never won the ODI match on January 26. India lost the two matches and one was undecided, whenever they played on 26th January.
