The visitors at stumps on Day 4 are struggling at 31/3, still trailing by 378 runs. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja struck twice in an over to put the Lankans on the back-foot.
Dinesh Chandimal and the remaining Lankan batsmen have to bat out of their skins to save the test match on the final day tomorrow. First innings centurion Angelo Mathews (0*) and Dananjaya de Silva (13*) are the two not out batsmen before bad light stopped play today.
Fast bowler Mohammad Shami gave India the first breakthrough, dismissing Sadeera Samarawickrama off a roaring bouncer. The Bengal pacer was in some discomfort in the same over as he was seen vomiting on the ground, crouching down and then gulping water. He went on to complete the over but left the field shortly afterwards.
In the morning session it was Sri Lankan paceman Suranga Lakmal who threw up twice. He went to the dressing room briefly but returned to the field, bowling 14 overs and taking one wicket.
India declared its second innings on 246/5 with both Virat and Rohit notching up half centuries in the final session.Opener Shikhar Dhawan top-scored for India with 67 runs.
Apart from Lakmal, Lahiru Gamage, Dilruwan Perera, Lakshan Sandakan and Dhananjaya de Silva took a wicket each.
Earlier, Sri Lanka were dismissed for 373, conceding a 163-run lead to India who had declared on 536 for seven.
It will be a record breaking chase here as no Test team has chased down 410 since 2003, when the West Indies defeated Australia after making 418 runs.
